I’m sure you all remember Paul Verhoeven’s earlier movies, Robocop and Total Recall right? Remember how good they were? Starship Troopers is his newest achievement and it leaves all his previous work far behind. In the future, the human race is at war with a powerful species of alien insects that are highly evolved. The alien bugs have no technology, just intelligence. The bugs demonstrate their genius by launching their reproductive spores into space on the surface of giant meteors. When one of these impacts on the earth killing millions, the human race declares war on the bugs, and severely underestimates their opponents. This movie has it all, character development, strong plot, powerful and moving characters, and lots of action! Paul Verhoeven has made some very much needed statements with this film, the most prominent being women in high-ranking military positions, and as equals in the infantry. It’s about time that somebody in Hollywood has inserted large quantities of carnage into their films, and not just tiny little bullet holes. When someone takes a hit in this movie, you see it, all of it. The opening scene of this one even gives the opportunity to walk out of the theatre (if you have a weak stomach) by showing a military reporter cut into 3 pieces by a bug before your very eyes. Get out there now and catch this flick on the big screen, because it’s worth twice the price of the ticket! Starship Troopers gets a 2.5 on the Kevo-Meter!
