Mar 9, 2007 - 300Back

It’s been a while, in fact as far back as Conan the Barbarian since we’ve seen heads flying right off their shoulders. However, although we have severed heads in this movie which is not new, we do have something that is new: over the top, wild and crazy battle scenes, coupled with some of the best cinematography I have ever seen. This movie is visually stunning.
300 is based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel of the same title telling the story of 300 Spartans battling against 1 million Persians whom have come and to enslave all of Sparta.
I’ll be the first one to admit, that Frank Miller is not the greatest storyteller in the world, but one thing that he is however, is a master at creating disturbing imagery. As in most of Frank Miller’s work, there’s very little in the way of character development in this tale. I am going to be honest here and state clearly that I did not see this movie for the story, nor did I see it for character development. I went out of my way to see this movie on the IMAX screen to fully experience violence at its finest. I was not disappointed – I repeat: I was not disappointed! There is a perfect mix and of real time and slow motion battle scenes that are a must see. There are some story loopholes that you have to take with a grain of salt, and if you’re willing to overlook them, you are going to walk out of the theatre with a very big smile on your face. This movie gets an A+ for effort, and a three on the Kev-O-Meter.
Want my advice? See this movie at IMAX cinema!
