Mar 15, 2006 - Bread and Honey Festival invites Skate Canada to Join ParadeBack
Bread & Honey Festival Information from the Streetsville-Meadowvale Figure Skating Club
The Streetsville-Meadowvale Figure Skating Club was founded in 1963 and operated for 10 years out of Vic Johnston Arena in Streetsville, Mississauga. The Club needed more ice-time and moved to Meadowvale-4-Rinks after it opened in 1973. At this time we also changed our name from Streetsville Figure Skating Club to Streetsville-Meadowvale Figure Skating Club to give credit to our new surroundings.

Since our early days the Club has grown significantly, at present we have more than 500 members who participate in our various programs. We have approx. 380 children signed up for our CanSkate and Pre-CanSkate Programs and approx. 125 are in the STARSkate and Competitive stream. For our STARSkate and Competitive skaters we offer early morning stroking and afternoon and evening Skills, Dance, Stroking and Freeskate sessions all on our heated rink. We also offer an extensive off-ice program to our skaters, they can choose from Pilates, Jump Classes, Ballet and NTC Core Strength Training program. All classes are specifically geared to the needs of figure skaters and are taught in our off-ice room which is equipped with mirrors, ballet bars and exercise equipment.

Our Club also stages a Bi-Annual Ice Show - this year's theme was "Welcome to Neverland" and the show was a huge success. The show is an opportunity for the skaters to show off their skills and grace and thoroughly enjoy the skating without the pressure of a competition. Ben Ferreira was as our special guest star this year.
It takes months to prepare and stage a show like this. Many volunteers work countless hours to make this event possible and after three incredible performances at Iceland Arena in Mississauga it is all worth while!
After 3 successful shows some of our skaters and guest skaters in front of the pirate ship used in the show. The boat was built by skaters, coaches and parents.
In non ice show years we try to accommodate seminars for our skaters, and were very fortunate to have Jennifer Robinson, Shane Denison and Michelle Leigh in the Spring of 2005. We are already searching for next year's seminar crew.
We host an Annual Year End Awards Banquet, which is dedicated to acknowledge the hard work, commitment and achievements of our members. Skaters are recognized for their volunteer commitment as well as their skating achievement in testing and competing.

We also participate in the Bread & Honey Festival Parade and the Streetsville Santa Claus Parade. Both are wonderful opportunities for our Skaters to get together and show their talents to the community. At this year's Bread & Honey Festival we promoted our Learn to Skate Program "CanSkate" by handing out fridge magnets to families. At the Santa Claus Parade the members will hand out candy canes to the spectators.

This year we are co-hosting the Midway West Area Competition "Skates Alive", skaters from 15 different clubs are invited to skate with us at Clarkson Arena. We are looking forward to this exciting skating event, the preparation is well under way and it should be a smooth event full of great skating.
