Hello to you all. My name is Kevin Johnston, design Manager of 300Bucks.ca, and long-time writer / designer. I have always loved movies, but what I love even more than watching them is letting my friends and family know what to spend their hard-earned dollars on, and what they should avoid wasting their time on. In the late nineties and early zeros I was contracted to watch between 6 and 10 movies a week, and report on them. My movie review column which at the time was called Kevin Jackal Johnston Duz The Flicks was featured in Fast Forward Magazine, Gen X Weekly, In-Touch Magazine and various other web-based magazines, (most of which no longer exist) for close to 4 years. You have never met anyone whom has consumed more popcorn in their lives than I have. You think I’d be sick of it by now, but I’m not – I have no explanation.
 My rating system was designed to give more scale and variety in the numbers to allow my readers to judge for themselves if my thought processes were the same as theirs, and also to chart how many movies were outside of the average score on either the high or the low side. This was achieved with a thermometer starting at negative 5 and working its way up to positive 5. Zero was the level of absolute indifference, with everything below zero being bad, to downright awful the closer I got to negative 5. On the positive side 2 to 2.5 was where most movies that had effort put into them rested, where I left the theatre felling ok about my time in the cinema chair. 3 and above were exceptional efforts where I knew that I would watch the film again and again on DVD upon its release.
Since I no longer write for magazines, my evenings out are no longer complimentary of the cinema companies or major publications, plus my time as a father of two is very limited, I am unable to keep up with all of the new flicks that Hollywood, Bollywood and independent production houses are pumping out daily. I try to catch at least one new release a week, so I will be adding my sarcastic tones to that feature only.
However, I do have a number of my older reviews that remained my property after they were written so I will continue to grab them off of old CD backups and post them here for your enjoyment.
